Romans 10: 9-10 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

"Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain." Ps. 76:10
Wicked men will be wrathful. Their anger we must endure as the badge of our calling, the token of our separation from them: if we were of the world, the world would love its own. Our comfort is that the wrath of man shall be made to redound to the glory of God. When in their wrath the wicked crucified the Son of God they were unwittingly fulfilling the divine purpose, and in a thousand cases the willfulness of the ungodly is doing the same. They think themselves free, but like convicts in chains they are unconsciously working out the decrees of the Almighty.
The devices of the wicked are overruled for their defeat. They act in a suicidal way, and baffle their own plottings. Nothing will come of their wrath which can do us real harm. When they burned the martyrs, the smoke which blew from the stake sickened men of Popery more than anything else.
Meanwhile, the Lord has a muzzle and a chain for bears. He restrains the more furious wrath of the enemy. He is like a miller who holds back the mass of the water in the stream, and what he does allow to flow he uses for the turning of his wheel. Let us not sigh, but sing. All is well, however hard the wind blows.

For those Mighty Men who are interested in getting God's Word deep in their hearts.... this is a system that works wonderfully. Modify it to best fit your needs.
1st week: read the verse in context, copy it on a 3x5 card, & review the verse every day.
2nd week: review the verse every day.
3rd week: review the verse Monday, Wednesday, & Friday.
4th week: review the verse Tuesday & Thursday.
5th, 6th, 7th, 8th weeks: review the verse on the weekend.
Periodically review past verses.
A 3x5 card file works well for storing the verses. Cut down 4x6 cards to make dividers. Carry the verse with you so you can review it when you ... start your car, start a meal, pray, greet your kids, etc. Cutting the card in 1/2 and putting the reference on the back is a great way to memorize.

This morning we had a guest pastor at our church. He had prepared a message on .... I don't remember what he was going to speak about. Earlier that morning during prayer he had felt a calling to NOT speak on ___ but to speak to the church, to tell the church, "repent, God is calling you to repent." In order to have REVIVAL in Kalamazoo, believers need to repent. Re- is a prefix that means to do again. Re-vival is to bring back to life. We need to revive ourselves, then the culture will follow us and come close to God.
The text he used was 2Chronicles 7:13,14 "If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, and if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land." He spoke about the believer's repentance and the land will be healed. Revival always comes after people humbling themselves and praying.
In light of our discussion on Thursday night, we need to repent. We have grieved the heart of God. We have grieved the Holy Spirit. I need to repent. The lust of the mind. "If you have looked at a woman with lust in your heart, you have committed adultery in your heart." Matthew 5:28 I am as guilty as any other guy in the room. I call on the men of the Mighty Men Training Institute to join me in repenting. You all have permission to ask me, "How's your thought life?"
For an excellent prayer of repentance, read Anthony Carter's prayer in a previous blog entry.

"Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest." Josh. 1:7
Yes, the Lord will be with us in our holy war, but He demands of us that we strictly follow His rules. Our victories will very much depend upon our obeying Him with all our heart, throwing strength and courage into the actions of our faith. If we are halfhearted we cannot expect more than half a blessing.
We must obey the Lord with care and thoughtfulness. "Observe to do" is the phrase used, and it is full of meaning. This is referred to every part of the divine will; we must obey with universal readiness. Our rule of conduct is "according to all the law." We may not pick and choose, but we must take the Lord's commands as they come, one and all. In all this we must go on with exactness and constancy. Ours is to be a straightforward course, which bends neither to the right nor to the left. We are not to err by being more rigid than the law, nor turn out of levity to a more free and easy way. With such obedience there will come spiritual prosperity. O Lord, help us to see if it be not even so! We shall not test thy promise in vain.

Hypertension, also known as High Blood Pressure is the leading cause of heart disease in America. It’s known as the silent killer and it affects African Americans at a much higher rate than the rest of the population. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, African Americans are 8 times more likely to develop kidney failure that other ethnic groups and they directly attribute it to hypertension.
Researchers are still trying to sort through the possible reasons for the disparity in numbers. There are many theories, but until we know for sure, the facts are these:
- High blood pressure tends to be more common and more severe in the black community.
- It is the single largest contributing factor to shorter life spans for African Americans.
- It is the number one cause for type-2 diabetes deaths for African Americans.
(Source: Dept. of Health & Human Services)
How can high blood pressure be prevented or managed?
- Maintain the proper weight for height/age. Losing just 10% of body weight can often cause a dramatic increase in overall health.
- Eat heart smart! Increase the proportion of fruit, vegetables, and low fat dairy in diet. Avoid foods that are high in saturated fat or cholesterol.
- Pass on the salt! A high sodium diet is a huge contributor to high blood pressure. Limit intake to only 2400 mg per day.
- Limit alcohol consumption. Limit alcohol intake to 2 drinks per day for men and only 1 for women.
- Get moving! 30 minutes per day of moderate level activity like biking or walking is a good goal.
- Quit smoking!
- Consult a doctor. Starting an exercise routine or new diet should begin with a conversation with a physician.
Because the risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease is increased, high blood pressure is a condition that must be taken seriously. Although medication might be advised by a physician it's good to know that simple changes to diet and the addition of regular exercise can make significant improvements.

Lord, I pray that You would convict me of any error in my life. Cleanse me from any secret sins and teach me to be a person who is quick to confess when I am wrong. Help me to recognize my mistakes. Give me eyes to see Your truth and ears to hear Your voice.
Lord, I pray that You would make me a person of integrity, according to Your standards. Give me strength to say "Yes" when I should say "Yes", and courage to say "No" when I should say "No". Enable me to stand for what I know is right and not waver under pressure from the world.
Bring me to full repentance before You. If there is suffering to be done, let it be the suffering of a remorseful heart and not because the crushing hand of the enemy has found an opening into my life through unconfessed sin.
Lord, I know that humility must come before honor. Take away all pride that would cause me to deny my faults and where I have erred in this and other matters, give me a heart that is quick to confess my mistakes. Give me a teachable spirit that is willing to listen and grow in Your ways. Amen

The sun felt warm against the back of Sara’s neck as it blended perfectly with the soft breeze against her cheek. Lost in thought, the world kept moving around her as birds chirped and people walked past the bench that she occupied. Attempting to wrap around all of the recent events of her past her mind was occupied as another being sat next to her.
Looking up Sara’s bright blue eyes met the warm gaze of the stranger that intruded on her personal sanctuary. That set of eyes belonged to the face of a young, teenage girl with soft features. They were looking back at Sara with a tenderness that offered her a small sense of comfort.
No words were exchanged between the two teenage girls as their looks shifted simultaneously across the street in front of them. Partly blocked by a large maple tree the word ‘Clinic’ was the only thing visible on the large sign above the building. Unconsciously Sara found her hands softly sliding across her abdomen.
“Do you have an appointment,” the words of the stranger quietly rang from across the bench.
“Do YOU have an appointment,” Sara shot back, almost without thinking, out of bitterness towards the intrusive question.
“You could say that. Do you?,” the gentle words dented the emotional shield Sara has constructed.
Sara attempted to ignore the question but the more she resisted the more uncomfortable she felt not answering. Her reply came almost as a whisper, “Yes.”
“You don’t think you can do it, do you,” another question, another intrusion.
“Do what,” Sara once against shot back.
“I don’t mean what you have scheduled across the street. You don’t think you can be a mother, do you,” regardless of intentions, or the softness in her inquiry, Sara felt the need to defend herself against this stranger who couldn’t be any old than she was.
“I don’t know who you think you are. You don’t know anything about me. You don’t know anything about my life. I have no one to help me. My dad left when I was three and my mom works two jobs just to support my sister and me. My ex wants nothing to do with me, I’m a sophomore in high school and no, dang it, I don’t think I can do it,” each word came with bitterness until the tears started to flow.
“You can do it, Sara,” came the soft, sweet reply of the stranger.
“And how the heck would you know,” once again Sara shot back like a poisonous dart.
“Because I did it. I was a young pregnant teenager and it felt like the weight of the world was on my shoulders. I lived in a small town and everyone there looked down at me. They called me names and accused me of doing horrible things. But in the end, I realized that once that little thing in me started to grow, the purpose of my life changed. Regardless of what I thought my life had in store for me. Regardless of the plans I made. As soon as I knew He was inside me, I had no other choice but to do everything I could possibly do to protect him because that was now my life.” The words of the plain looking stranger brought a sense of peace to Sara’s anger.
Not knowing what to say. Thoughts and feelings buzzing through her like bees out of a shaken nest, her voice brought forth the only thing she could think to say, “How do I know I can do it?”
It was then that the stranger took Sara’s hand in hers and their gazed met. As the stranger spoke, her reply fed Sara’s soul like warm soup on a cold day,” Because God knows you can. There is no trial, no problem, no trouble that we face that we aren’t strong enough to get through. You are pregnant not only because you made a mistake but because God knew you could do it. Sara, He knows every hair that is on your head. He knows you better than you can imagine. And He knows that you can do this. He knows that not only can you be a mother but you can be a great one.”
The tears from Sara’s eyes littered her shirt with wet spots. There hasn’t been a time in her life where a single person had believed in her, including herself. Now, somehow, this odd stranger who was no older than her, brought a message of belief and strength. In that moment Sara didn’t know for sure if God was real but she did know that the hope and peace in her heart was. It was a feeling that Sara didn’t want to ever let go and would search her whole life to find the source of.
“Do you have an appointment,” the stranger asked Sara for a second time that sunny afternoon.
“Not yet,” she replied, “but I’ll call my doctor as soon as I get home.”
Leaning over Sara reached out and wrapped her arms around the stranger with a tremendous hug. After the two girls embraced, they both rose and traded soft smiles. Nodding to each other they began to go their separate ways. Sara turned back at the last moment and found the stranger just about to get on a bus across the street.
“Wait, what was your name,” she shouted her question.
“Mary,” the stranger shouted back with a beaming smile as she boarded the bus and Sara watched her ride away into the beautiful afternoon.
